century egg!!!
this is century eggs or also known as preserved eggs. these outlandish ova are a chinesse delicacy dating back centuries to the ming dynasty. the boastful name suggests these eggs take forever to make, this a misnomer. traditionally century eggs were made by preserving chicken or duck eggs in a mixture of salt, lime and ash then wrapping in rice husks for several weeks. century eggs take about 4-5 weeks to make, a few minutes to work up to courage to open, and a few second to eat.
they can be eaten alone, but are often served with pickled ginger root. they can also accompany congee or rice porridge.
it tastes far better than a hard-boiled eggs and it has no foul odor at all. it actually smells a lot less offensive than eggs normaly do. the taste is soft and quite neutral, but it is a a bit sticky and can make your teeth look green if you don't have the sensibility to flush it down with some alcoholic beverage.
