luwak coffee!!!

luwak coffee is the most expensive coffee in the world. also known as civet coffee. this coffee from indonesian. the asian luwak which lives in the wild will eat the best coffee berries of the tree. at this point, the local farmers in sumatra will find the best luwak's dropping and take them for processing. they will throughly clean all luwak droppings to ensure coffee is ready for roasting. once the coffee beans have made the standards, then it will prepare for roasting. the most expensive price for this coffee can cost up to $600 a pound, and up to $50 per cup.

white ant egg soup

if you walk through the street of thailand, cambodia, vietnam, your senses will be greeted by a slew of some of the most bizarre foods in asia. white ant egg soup is a mixture of eggs, partial embryos baby ants. people say the eggs pop in their mouths, releasing a sour flavour. the eggs are soft and apparently have a sour taste.

care must be taken to overcook the insect and their larvaes so that the texture remains. the eggs have been described as musky and tasting somewhat like mushrooms.

are you brave enough to try???

beondegi

                                                                         beondegi!!!

beondegi are a a popular snack food in korean cuisine. literally meaning "chrysalis" or "pupa" in korean. beondegi are steamed or boiled silkworm pupae which are seasoned and eaten as a snack. now beondegi is usually cooked with some sugar and soy sauce to help tame the natural flavour. the bugs have the slight crunch to them but are boiled to the point where they are quite soft on the inside. the taste is very unique as its tend to taste like wet bark from a tree.

their aroma is similar to wet, burning wood. these larvae live and eat the inside of the trees so their tendency to taste and smell like wood makes a lot of sense. the smell is very distinguishable and it common to be accompanied by the wonderful smell of soju. it is a nice little snack and is usually used as a banchan.

overall if you want an authentic, true taste and understandings of korean culture, eating beondegi is the only way to go.

wasp crackers!!!

this food known as wasp crackers. this snack was invented by japanesse wasp fan club. yes, there is an entire group of people who have a collective passion for the stinging insects. japanesse wasps crackers have caused quite a buzz among insects epicures. made by using wasps hunted by elderly gents in the woods near the town of omachi, they are baked by the tray-full and distributed by wasps lovers club.

it taste just like the chicken. each rice crackers contains five or so of its insects ingredient, which are first boiled in water. but the big questions in everyone's lips is are there stings in their tails? apparently yes, but they're not harmful to humans, especially when pressed in hot iron cracker cutters.

century egg!!!

this is century eggs or also known as preserved eggs. these outlandish ova are a chinesse delicacy dating back centuries to the ming dynasty. the boastful name suggests these eggs take forever to make, this a misnomer. traditionally century eggs were made by preserving chicken or duck eggs in a mixture of salt, lime and ash then wrapping in rice husks for several weeks. century eggs take about 4-5 weeks to make, a few minutes to work up to courage to open, and a few second to eat.

they can be eaten alone, but are often served with pickled ginger root. they can also accompany congee or rice porridge.

it tastes far better than a hard-boiled eggs and it has no foul odor at all. it actually smells a lot less offensive than eggs normaly do. the taste is soft and quite neutral, but it is a a bit sticky and can make your teeth look green if you don't have the sensibility to flush it down with some alcoholic beverage.

balut!!!

                                                                        ewwww!!!!!

well for me this really disgusting food. BALUT is a boiled duck egg with small embryo inside, is a delicacy enjoyed all across philippines. though eating balut has gained global stature as extreme gastronomy, the average filipino considers it is delicious treat. unlike the other street food, balut is always safe as it is always sold piping hot and sealed ( unopened). nutritious and flavorful, it is staple for people working late in the night or coming home in the wee hours of the morning. balut egg is boiled and usually eaten with salt, just like a normal boiled egg.

for me it is worse food because you're never going to look at an egg the same way. tell youself that everytime you crack open an egg from now on you won't be half expecting a leathery wad of bird to come flopping out into the skillet.

turtle jelly!!!weird.....

turtle jelly

for me it is really weird food. this food is one of chinesse favourite's summer time desserts. in traditional chinesse medicine, turtle shell is treasured for its ability to "nourish yin". people believe that this black, slightly bitter jelly can reduce the internal heat and can make skin smoother.

all over hong kong special shops sell turtle jelly. turtle jelly ia made by stewing the turtle shell for 20 hours. the stew is added to a broth made from over 20 herbs, including ginseng. the result is a bowl of steaming, quavering black goo. people eat it to cure a variety of illness.

however, conversationist are worried because many asian turtle species are in danger of extinction from over-harvesting.

natto!!!

just guess, what kind of food is this? hoho....

actually this is japanesse food known as NATTO. this food is the japanesse original and traditional food. natto is the fermented food made of soybeans and is rich in vegetables protein. it is usually eaten with rice .

natto has a certain characteristics flavour, therefore some people do not like it. also natto has sticky paste on its surface, and once it is stirred, the sticky paste increases its volume and becomes more sticky. when you get natto with your spoon and chopstick, you will find that the paste pulls a part of as if a spider web. this is another case why some do not like natto.

but, of course these features attract people including me. if you like blue cheese, then you'll surely love natto. if natto is available near you, please try once.
